Check the complete rail-system rating
The rail, end sockets, centre support, cabinet panels and screws work as one system. A high-capacity tube can still fail if its sockets or surrounding board are not designed for the same load.

Measure coats and hangers before choosing depth
External depth is not the usable hanging depth. Measure from the inside back surface to the nearest closed-door component, allowing for tracks, fittings and protruding handles.
Place the bulkiest coat on its normal hanger and measure its real front-to-back envelope. Compare that with the product's internal dimension. There is no universal requirement that every winter-coat wardrobe must be 650–700 mm deep.

Provide a proper long-hanging zone
Measure each long coat from the hanger hook to the hem. The rail should leave the garment clear of the base, drawers and lower shelves. A double-rail layout is useful for short items, but it is not a substitute for full-length coat space.
A centre support may reduce rail deflection when it is part of the intended design. Do not add one to a thin back panel or unapproved location simply because the span exceeds an arbitrary distance.
Assess carcass and hardware quality
Check rail supports, panel thickness, joint design, back-panel construction, anti-tip fittings and replacement-part availability. Core material names do not prove performance: plywood, MDF and particleboard all vary by grade, edge sealing and construction.
A product link or description should not call a wardrobe reinforced unless its specification identifies the reinforcement. Likewise, FSC certification concerns responsible sourcing; it does not establish a particular load capacity.

Prevent moisture and musty odours
Store coats only when fully dry, leave enough space to remove garments without dragging them together and keep the room adequately heated and ventilated. A wardrobe against a cold external wall may need a small gap if the manufacturer and room layout allow it.

Install the wardrobe safely
Assemble the carcass square, use every specified rail component and fit the manufacturer's anti-tip restraint with fixings suitable for the wall. Mirrored, tall or heavily loaded units may justify competent installation.
Do not home-test a rail with bags of sand, books or concentrated weights. Weigh a representative group of coats away from the wardrobe and remain below the documented system limit.
Watch for overload or deterioration
- Increasing rail sag or permanent bending.
- Cracked sockets, loose centre supports or pulled screws.
- Board swelling, enlarged fixing holes or distorted doors.
- Creaking or movement as garments are added.
Unload the rail and stop using it if any warning sign appears. Repair the cause rather than moving the same load onto an unverified component.
