What does white matt mean?

Matt refers to a low-sheen finish that produces less sharp reflection than a high-gloss surface. Product titles may also use the spelling matte, but buyers should compare photographs, samples and the written finish description rather than assuming every low-sheen white looks or feels the same.

A matt surface may make some fingerprints or fine marks less conspicuous than a highly reflective gloss, but it does not prevent dust, scratches or staining. Texture and cleanability vary between painted, foil-wrapped, melamine-faced, laminated and other surfaces. Use only claims stated for the exact product.

Choose sliding or hinged doors

Sliding doors avoid a door-swing arc and can work well when a bed or walkway is close to the wardrobe. Hinged doors can expose more of the interior at once and use hardware that is often straightforward to adjust or replace. Measure the room in three dimensions

Measure width, height and depth at several points. Include skirting, coving, sockets, switches, radiators, window handles, sloping ceilings and the bedroom door. For hinged wardrobes, mark each door's actual swing from the product dimensions. For sliding wardrobes, preserve enough space for a person to stand and use the opening even though the doors do not swing out.

Check the packaged panel sizes and route from the entrance to the room. Also confirm how much space is needed to assemble the carcass and raise it upright. A tall wardrobe may fit beneath the ceiling once built but still need more working clearance during assembly.

Plan the internal layout

List what needs to hang, fold or sit in drawers. Compare usable rail length, hanging height, shelf spacing, drawer clearance and stated load limits. A wide wardrobe is not automatically spacious if its interior does not match the user's clothing.

Compare materials and edge details

Do not treat MDF, particleboard, melamine, laminate or solid wood as a complete quality verdict. Check panel thickness where stated, rear-panel construction, shelf support, edge banding, hinge or roller specification, connectors and permitted loads. Large unsupported spans and damaged or exposed edges deserve particular attention.

Claims such as scratch-resistant, moisture-resistant, sustainable or certified should be tied to the product documentation. Certification of a timber source does not establish that a landlord has met every environmental standard, and a decorative surface should not be assumed suitable beside a heat source or in persistent damp.

Mirrors and lighting need separate checks

A mirrored front can remove the need for a separate floor mirror and alter the way light moves through a room. Confirm the mirror or glass specification, edge condition and any safety information supplied. Do not operate a cracked, loose or damaged glazed panel.

For wardrobes with LED lighting, check whether the system is included or optional, how it is powered and switched, cable routing, replacement parts and the required electrical work. Do not assume every width in a range includes the same light, shelves or rails. Compare the current specification for each variant.

Safety, assembly and wall restraint

Read the instructions before ordering. Confirm the required people, tools, working area and fixing surfaces. Use the supplied or specified restraint and fixings appropriate to the wall construction. Tall furniture should never be made to fit by omitting a manufacturer-required wall fixing.

Mirrored doors and large panels may need specialist handling. If the floor is uneven, the wall is weak or the wardrobe uses a top-hung system, obtain competent installation advice rather than improvising.
